Corporate information
Royal Legislative Decree 2/2004, of 18 June 2004, served to modify the National Hydrological Plan Act (Act 10/2001, of 5 July 2001), among other measures repealing Article 13 of the previous Act, subsequently covered by Act 11/2005, of 22 June 2005.
This legal change impacted in particular on the public corporation Sociedad Estatal Infraestructuras del Trasvase S.A., which saw its name changed to Aguas de las Cuencas Mediterráneas, S.A. (Acuamed). Responsibility for the company was also transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment), under the terms of Article 176.1 of the Public Authority Property Act (Act 33/2003, of 27 November 2003).
The corporate purpose of Acuamed, as set out in the text approved by the Council of Ministers on 22 July 2005, is as follows:
- The purpose of the corporation is the contracting, construction, acquisition and operation of all manner of hydrological public works, and in particular works of general public interest which, pursuant to the terms of Act 11/2005, modifying the National Hydrological Plan Act, are undertaken in substitution of those previously established for the transfer of water resources.
- The administration of contracts for studies, projects, construction, acquisition or operation involved in the public works referred to in paragraph 1 above, along with the undertaking of preparatory, supplementary or derivative activities based on the above.
- The corporate purpose may be pursued either directly or through stakes in the capital stock of companies established or to be established with any of the purposes indicated in the above paragraphs.
Aguas de las Cuencas Mediterráneas, S.A. is a state corporation dependent on the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment. Its capital stock amounts to 1,241,021,140 euros, fully subscribed and paid up by the Spanish State, the sole and founding shareholder and the holder of all the stock.
