Cerro Blanco pipeline to the water treatment plant of El Atabal

Description of worksState:

To improve the current high level supply network in the city of Málaga, which currently runs through a system of open channeling together with the irrigation, a water catchment is made use of in the Azud de Aljaima, in the channel of the river Guadalhorce, remodeling existing pumping facilities, and a 21 kilometer pipeline from the catchment to the desalination plant of El Atabal.

Mijas and Manilva tertiary WWTPs

Description of worksState:

The aim of the action is to incorporate the waste water treatment plants of Cala Mijas and Manilva to the tertiary treatments needed to regenerate the purified water, so that water quality being supplied to the golf courses and green areas is improved. The action provides for the distribution of reclaimed water to the golf courses in line with Article 4 of Decree 240/2005 of 2 November, of the Junta de Andalucía, which governs the exceptional measures during drought in various municipalities in Málaga, including those of the western Costa del Sol.

The purpose of the action involves the upgrading of existing treatment systems in purification plants of Estepona and Marbella, to obtain a quality product that allows water reuse for irrigation of golf courses

The Atabal (Málaga) desalination plant

Description of worksState:

The use of resources of the Guadalhorce reservoirs and underground aquifer, by the Town Council of Málaga, is limited by the lack of water quality. With this action the issue of quality is achieved by the desalination plant and the adequacy of existing facilities. A desalination plant was built for brackish water with reverse osmosis technology and production capacity of 165,000 m3/day was built in order to make full use of the resources. These facilities are located in the vicinity of El Atabal WWTP thus being able to take advantage of existing infrastructures.

Description of worksState:

The purpose of this action is to run a distribution network that allows reclaimed waste water from the Arroyo de la Miel WWTP (Benalmádena) to be used for irrigation of different golf courses and public gardens located in the municipality of Benalmádena (Málaga).

Description of worksState:

The purpose of this action is to carry out an extension of the existing tertiary treatment plant at the La Víbora WWTP (Marbella) to increase the amount of reclaimed water available for irrigation to 25,000 m3/day and the distribution network that allows the reclaimed waste water of La Víbora WWTP (Marbella) to be used for irrigation of golf courses and other public gardens located in the municipality of Marbella (Málaga).

Description of worksState:

The purpose of this action is to run a distribution network that allows reclaimed waste water from the Cerro del Águila WWTP (Fuengirola-Mijas) to be used for irrigation of golf courses and other public gardens located in the towns of Mijas (Málaga) and Fuengirola (Málaga).

Remodeling and commissioning of the Marbella desalination plant

Description of worksState:

With this initiative the Marbella desalination plant starts operating with an annual water production capacity of 20 hm3. The acquisition of this desalination plant allows its production to be integrated into the management of surface and groundwater resources of the entire area, with a positive induced impact on the security of supply to Málaga capital. The Marbella desalination plant, with an annual production capacity of 20 hm3, was acquired by Acuamed from the Association of Municipalities of the Costa del Sol, and its public company Acosol, in 2006.

Description of worksState:

Para mejorar la actual red de abastecimiento en alta de la ciudad de Málaga, que en la actualidad discurre por un sistema de canalizaciones abiertas conjuntamente con el regadío, se aprovecha una captación de aguas en el azud de Aljaima, en el cauce del río Guadalhorce, remodelando las instalaciones de bombeo actuales, y una conducción de 21 kilómetros desde la captación hasta la planta desalobradora del El Atabal.
