In some sections of the lower area of the Ebro, lack of investment and facilities have made the river more of a problem than an asset for the conservation of a heritage that generates wealth and identity. The purpose of this action is the construction and equipping of four visitor centres in the towns of Xerta, Aldover, Mora d'Ebre and Tivenys. The new interpretation centres will disseminate to the public information related to fluvial dynamics, galachos, islands, meanders and river beaches that exist in the lower Ebro.

Elimination of chemical contamination from the Flix reservoir 1st stage

Description of worksState:

Flix Reservoir retains a lot of sludge in its basin that originated from historical discharges from the chemical activity and changes in the fluvial dynamics of the river through the construction of the Mequinensa, Ribarroja and Flix dams. The main objective of the action is to reduce the inherent risk in the accumulation of contaminated waste in the Flix reservoir by its disposal. For this planning has been carried out to extract, process, transport and dispose the waste accumulated in the basin into a controlled deposit.

INSTALLATIONS:

Programme to implement a network of environmental indicators of the Ebro Delta

Description of worksState:

Chapter seven of the Action Plan for the Protection of the Ebro Delta includes the creation a network of environmental indicators. The action is to implement a network of environmental checkpoint indicators to monitor the flow of water to get to know the water status and its future evolution. It also includes the installation of a control centre and a laboratory for chemical and ecological analysis. This monitoring will allow predictions of the evolution of the state of the Ebro Delta to be set up.

Conditioning of irrigation channels to deliver surplus to the two bays (Tarragona)

Description of worksState:

In the Ebro Delta there are large areas aimed at the production of rice with high water consumption. When water is no longer needed in the rice fields, much of the flow from the concession of the channels of the Right and the Left of the river Ebro river is discharged back to the river, not entering the delta system and therefore not reaching the bays at one of the most critical times of the year from the point of view of the need of fresh water. The purpose of this action is to allow the input of fresh water from irrigation canals directly to the bays.

Construction of a coastal protection and settling wetlands (Tarragona)

Description of worksState:

There are two types of water infrastructure in the Ebro Delta, irrigation channels, which supply the crop fields, and the network of drains, which collect the water from the fields and carry the run-off during rainfall. When the water level in the drainage ditches is below the sea level, it is pumped to the bays, arriving laden with sludge, nutrients, plant components and other contaminants, resulting in a deterioration of the ecological status of the bays .

Description of worksState:
The coastal lagoons of the Delta have a number of direct connections with the sea, called "provideros", which facilitate the exchange of water masses between the two environments. The salt balance of the lagoons is maintained primarily by freshwater input from freshwater that comes from irrigation, so without these contributions there would be a rapid increase in salinity due to the entry of sea water, evaporation and stagnation in the water due to the absence of exchange.

EDAR y colectores de Sant Jaume de Enveja (Tarragona)

Description of worksState:

El municipio de Sant Jaume d'Enveja, en la provincia de Tarragona, no dispone actualmente de un sistema de tratamiento de aguas residuales, realizándose el vertido de las aguas residuales de forma directa al río Ebro. Las aguas residuales vertidas se caracterizan por presentar una gran dilución en los meses de verano por la mezcla de la red de saneamiento con los excedentes de los riegos de los campos de arroz, mientras que en los meses de invierno no se produce dicha dilución.

EDAR de Uldemolins (Tarragona)

Description of worksState:

El municipio de Ulldemolins, en la provincia de Tarragona, no dispone de ningún tipo de sistema de tratamiento de sus aguas residuales, evacuándolas actualmente a través de dos puntos al río Montsant y en un tercer punto al barranco de la Olla. La actuación consiste en la construcción de una estación depuradora de aguas residuales capaz de tratar los vertidos actuales y previstos para un futuro.

INSTALLATIONS:

EDAR de la Horta de Sant Joan (Tarragona)

Description of worksState:

El municipio de Horta de Sant Joan, en la provincia de Tarragona, no dispone de un sistema de tratamiento de sus aguas residuales, ya que la estación depuradora está fuera de servicio, lo que provoca vertidos sin tratar en los barrancos de Vilans y de Les Vinyasses, afluentes del río Algars. La actuación consiste en la construcción de una nueva estación depuradora de aguas residuales capaz de tratar un caudal medio de aguas residuales de 756 m3/dia y la construcción de los colectores necesarios para solucionar el vertido en los barrancos indicados.
