A delegation of the official school of industrial engineers of Murcia visited the facilities of Valdelentisco desalination plant in Murcia. This infrastructure has been in service since 2008, and it has been developed by the state society Acuamed, which depends on the Agriculture, Food and Environment Ministry.
The delegation of engineers has been greeted by Roberto López: the territorial manager of the state society Acuamed, who pointed out that it was the first desalination plant in Europe to obtain the European environmental certificate EMAS. This means that the management of the installation is performed fulfilling the highest standards of environmental management and auditing.
Valdelentisco’s desalination plant was opened in January 2008. Currently, it can reach a production capacity of up to 70 hm3/year, thus becoming one of the largest facilities of its kind in the world. The total investment amounted to 122 million Euros, co-financed by the European Union through the European Regional Development Fund.
